This summer, Tommy Welch is raising funds for the 2017 Red Sox Foundation Boston Marathon Team, and is inviting you to join the cause.

Dear family, friends, community members, and Red Sox Nation,

In late May, the Boston Red Sox Foundation announced the first ever marathon that will be entirely completed within a professional ballpark. I was one of 50 applicants accepted for the 26.2 mile race, but more importantly I have the opportunity to raise money for the Red Sox Scholars.

As an Instructional Superintendent for Boston Public Schools, I have seen the impact of the Red Sox Scholars on BPS students.  Red Sox Scholars organization provides mentoring, connections to after-school programs, enrichment activities and college scholarships for talented but economically disadvantaged Boston Public School students. Last year I even had the opportunity to cheer on one of my neighbors from East Boston when she was recognized on the field at Fenway Park as a Boston Red Sox scholarship recipient.

This summer, my goal is to raise $5,200 for this fantastic program by completing the marathon. On Friday, September 15th at 5pm, I will run 112 laps around the field at Fenway Park.  Please consider donating to the Red Sox Scholars and coming by Fenway to support me and 49 other runners at this unique race. Thank you for your support!
