Thor Kirleis

Dear Friends and Family,

I am very excited to announce an opportunity I have accepted in bringing together three of my passions: running, the Red Sox, and “doing more” for our community.

The opportunity is a partnership with Red Sox Foundation that will allow me to harness these passions into a vehicle for positive change in our community. I have agreed to raise $5000 dollars for the Red Sox Foundation. This will afford me the unique experience of being able to participate in the inaugural Fenway Park Marathon.

I ask for your help in making a difference with a donation to this cause. The Red Sox Foundation is a 501c3 nonprofit. Your donation is tax deductible. Please know that no amount is too small. Little hands make light work.

The Red Sox Foundation supports the following charities:

  • The Jimmy Fund
  • Red Sox Scholars Program
  • RBI (Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities)
  • New England Service Scholarships
  • Massachusetts Little League Initiative
  • The Home Base Program
  • The Dimock Center

Thank you for your time and consideration!

My motivation: When this opportunity first presented itself, I knew right away it was “my cause”. It called my name for a lot of reasons. Aside from the obvious, I have made a concerted effort over the last few years to give back to our community. I have done this by volunteering at least once per quarter for various organizations. Raising funds, however, has always been something I shied away from. No longer. This challenge will get me out of my comfort zone. I want to do this to continue the example that I am setting for my kids, to do it for me, and to do it for the kids who will be helped through these funds.

Event Details: The Fenway Park Marathon is a marathon distance run entirely within the confines of our beloved Fenway Park. In case you were curious, that is 112 laps around the warning track. The date is Friday, September 15, 2017 at 5 PM.

On race day, Fenway Park will open to friends and family. So on a Friday evening in mid-September, consider coming down to witness a first-ever experience, that being the first ever marathon run completely within the confines of any ballpark in the world. Unique to this experience is that you can heckle me 112 times over the course of a single race!
